Formula 1 is hot! With Max Verstappen’s breakthrough, interest in the sport exploded. The visitor numbers at RacingNews365 went through the roof. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in the adventure that started in an attic room in Brabant. The Formula 1 season was in full swing and the masses of visitors who were ready for a new site stimulated our developers to deliver within six weeks. Two years later, in 2019, it was time for the next steps and we developed a new platform based on comprehensive user research.
Every day we still continue to improve it. We think together about new features, we perform A/B tests to see what is working and what is not and we think about new businessmodels and partnership possibilities. It's great to see how this is working out in number of visitors and platform partners.

It's all about content!
Content, content and even more content! Fast and lots of Formula 1 news is the platform's engine. It’s therefore central to all navigation elements of the website. To better inform visitors’ in-the-moment, there is live timing and a liveblog during races. These updates are also visible in the prominent Matchcenter.
Challenges and great features
Succes can bring challenges as well. During a Grand Prix, the number of simultaneous visitors may increase to 20,000. With the deployment of an Amazon server in combination with Varnish Caching this challenge was tackled (nice and technical, huh?). Altough we try to cache as much as possible, the pages contain a lot of dynamic elements which are generated a-synchronically. Another challenge was the decreasing number of visitors via Facebook.
This is why we have a full focus on SEO. A platform with so many visits is a playground for developers. Because news is central, we immediately decided to work with AMP pages. These are "stripped-down" pages that get better ratings by Google and Facebook. We also used push notifications from browsers. With more than hundred thousand subscribers and open rates of 10-20%, this is a very effective new channel to generate extra traffic.

Statistics, games and more!
For us it’s a challenge to keep visitors and stimulate interaction. So, in addition to the latest news, we started creating a richer and more interactive platform. All teams and drivers have extensive biographies and statistics. Also, visitors can choose to create an account to participate in quizzes and prediction games as well as to discuss everything that's happening in Formula 1. RacingNews365 is now also a great platform for brands that want to reach the F1 target group.

As a big Formula 1 fan, I went crazy after the first meeting with RacingNews365. How much fun is it to set up a new platform for millions of people that will enrich their digital Formula 1 experience? The beautiful thing about this project is that we have used our in-house services from A to Z: web development, social media management and online marketing. In addition, it gives us the energy to stay involved on a daily basis. Together we continue to look at opportunities to improve the visitors’ experience!
